Guidelines For Concealed Weapon
Permits

If you have never
applied for a concealed weapon permit before, please follow these
guidelines:
- You must be a resident of
Burleigh County in order for the Bismarck Police Department to
process your application.
- The Bismarck Police
Department will provide the following:
- The application form
and State Law booklet, two sets of fingerprints and the
necessary background checks. There is a $25.00 processing
fee which can be paid by cash, check or money order.
- The Bismarck Police
Department will fingerprint and begin the concealed weapon
permit process on TUESDAY and THURSDAY
between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
- A written test and
proficiency test are required for new applicants. Test
administrators are: Brad Manz, 258-1528; Tim Hoffman, 223-8699; Forest Ecklund, 223-7016
or Mike Stensrud, 223-2328. By law they are able to charge
$50.00 to administer the tests. Please arrange to have
your tests completed before you return the completed application to
the Bismarck Police Department.
- Two colored ID photographs
are required. Stop by The Photo Express, cleverly hidden in
Kirkwood Mall anytime during business hours to have your photo
taken.
- There is a $25.00 mandated
State fee, which is payable by check or money order, to the North
Dakota Attorney General. The Bismarck Police Department will
collect this fee. No cash is accepted as we cannot issue
a receipt for State funds.
After the application is
processed at the Bismarck Police Department, it is forwarded to the
Burleigh County Sheriff's Department and then to the Bureau of Criminal
Investigation. The Bureau of Criminal Investigation will
issue the actual permit in approximately thirty days.
